Architecture client / server solution

Client requirements

• Windows XP (SP3) with at least 512 MB RAM or
• Windows Vista with at least 1 GB RAM, recommended 2 GB or
• Windows 7, 32-Bit or 64-Bit with at least 1 GB RAM, recommended 2 GB
• At least 250 MB free hard disk space for the installation of MuseumPlus
• Screen resolution of at least 1024 x 768 with at least 16 bit color resolution
• Microsoft Access XP (or higher) or Microsoft Access Runtime (no licence fees charged) (Windows 7, 64-Bit installations require an MS Access 32-Bit installation)
• Optional: Microsoft Word XP (or higher) for extended reporting capabilities (serial letters, event management)

Server requirements

Two conditions have to be fulfilled when using MuseumPlus in client /server environments:

• A network share for central storage of multimedia data and documents used by several users (e.g. templates) has to be accessible from the Windows workstation either as network drive or UNC path
• Central database with ODBC connection

Both can be provided on the same server. The choice of operating system and hardware configuration depend on the system requirements of the chosen database system.

• Microsoft SQL server 2005 or higher
• Oracle 10g or higher

Possible database systems for MuseumPlus for smaller environments

• Microsoft SQL server 2005 or higher (no licence fees charged)
• Oracle database 10g Express Edition or higher (no licence fees charged)

Possible database systems for MuseumPlus: Alternative

• Microsoft Access database on server used by several users, recommended up to a maximum of 5 users

Other database systems upon request.

Network requirements

• Clients: Ethernet, at least 10 Mbit/s
• Server: Ethernet, 10/100/1000 Mbit/s (depending on the number of clients)

Optional laptop synchronizer

Workstation requirements

• The requirements for the stand-alone installation are applied
• Network access with access to the central database and data storage unit for the purpose of data synchronization

Architecture terminal server solution

Terminal server requirements

• Microsoft Windows terminal server 2003 or higher
• Optional: Citrix Metaframe XP presentation server FR3 /SP4 or higher
• Microsoft Access XP (or higher) or Microsoft Access Runtime (no licence fees charged)
• Optional: Microsoft Word XP (or higher) for extended reporting capabilities (e.g. serial letters, event management etc.)
• At least 128 MB free RAM for each user in order to run MuseumPlus
• At least 250 MB free hard disk space for the installation of MuseumPlus
• Screen resolution of at least 1024 x 768 with at least 16 bit color resolution
• Hard disk space for digital images according to necessity
• Local access to database or access via network to the MuseumPlus database (see supported databases)

Thin client requirements

• Microsoft remote desktop connection client or Citrix ICA client
• Windows XP, Windows Vista, MacOSX, Linux etc.

Network requirements

• Recommended bandwidth: at least 128 kbit /s per thin client
• Optional: internet and /or VPN connection for access from external locations

Apple computers

Apart from a terminal server solution for Apple computers, there also exists the possibility to run MuseumPlus according to the following configurations:

Dual Boot

• Apple computer with Intel processor
• MacOSX 10.5 or higher with BootCamp
• Windows installation (XP or Vista) on second partition according to stand-alone installation or client /server solution

Virtualization

• Apple computer with Intel processor
• MacOSX 10.4
• Virtualization software (e.g. VMWare Fusion, Parallels Desktop, etc.)
• Windows installation (XP or Vista) on virtual machine according to standalone installation or client /server solution
