International experts gather to launch Europeana InsideApril 2012

More than 40 experts from more than 26 organisations and 12 countries gathered at the Science Museum in London on 17-18 April for the kickoff meeting of Europeana Inside, a new € 3.8million research and development programme which is being coordinated by the Collections Trust. zetcom is one of the 26 participating companies.

Europeana Inside aims to reduce or remove the barriers to participating in Europeana for museums, libraries, archives and other knowledge organisations across Europe. It will develop open-source tools designed to be integrated into Collections Management software, allowing users to decide how their knowledge is shared, with whom and under what conditions. It is unique in bringing together for the first time all of the major Collections Management System companies into a single project, building on the Collections Trust's SPECTRUM Partners Scheme.

Further information about the project, including an introductory presentation, is available from europeana. (Source: Collections Trust Newsletter April 2012)

The new export tool allows our customers to export their data in a standardized format and deliver directly or through national agencies (aggregators) to the European digital library "Europeana". Once set up, current data sets can be transferred to Europeana and other web portals (such as the German BAM portal).

Christmas party on skatesDecember 2011

This year's Christmas party for the Berlin zetcom team was held at Müggelsee. We enjoyed a sporting afternoon on the small covered ice rink skating to music from the 80s. Despite covering many "miles" only the mulled wine at the Christmas market in the Kulturbrauerei warmed us up again.  We let the evening pleasantly end at a nice Italian restaurant around the corner and delicious home-made pasta...

Asociación de Museos de Mountain Plains Informe de la Conferencia de 2011 Helena, Montana

zetcom was represented at the MPMA conferenceNovember 2011

Robert Hickerson, Business Development Manager for zetcom North America, presented a paper demonstrating a model for integrating collection records, traditional archival materials, administrative documents and all associated multimedia using MuseumPlus as the centralized information management system. This strategy creates the most effective management strategy for archiving born digital documents, and eliminating the need for additional systems. And, when including the Archive Materials module in the eMuseumPlus online collection, this model will provide the most efficient access to the collections, programming, and institutional history that 21st century museum audiences are expecting.

Additionally, Hickerson also presented at a session on how to use QR barcodes to deliver content to museum audiences.

Lunds Universitets Historiska MuseumOctober 2011

founded in 1805, is the second largest archaeological museum in Sweden and houses 10 million objects in its magazine. To date 150 000 artefacts have been digitized in an older system and have now been migrated into MuseumPlus. Central to this implementation was the high quality of preparatory work, which was necessary because of the complexity of relations between archaeological research, reports and objects.

The Historical museum decided on the Swedish version of MuseumPlus and the exhibition module for venue and loan management. The museum will from now on use MuseumPlus not only for their own artefacts, but also to administer almost all future archaeological findings from the province of Scania. Due to the large number of MuseumPlus users with different requirements and expertise, Karin Glasemann held an extended training session in Lund.
