With MuseumPlus, the Es Baluard Museu d’Art Contemporani de Palma (Mallorca) is creating the central starting point for the digitization of its collection, exhibitions, documentary and bibliographical collections with the aim of promoting knowledge and the dissemination of modern and contemporary art.
Following the institution’s clear fundaments and its primary basis since its opening in 2004, the “Es Baluard Museu” is committed to the research and thought on artists and movements that have converged, from the last decades of the 19th century to the present day, in the Balearic Islands, displayed in relation to the national and international artistic contexts.
The collection of “Es Baluard Museu” currently includes over 780 works and covers a wide range of artistic techniques including painting, sculpture, video, installation and photography, among others.
These include well-known artists such as Marina Abramović, Miquel Barceló, Christian Boltanski, Norah Borges, Robert Cahen, Toni Catany, Esther Ferrer, Susy Gómez, Rebecca Horn, Concha Jerez, Bouchra Khalili, Fernand Léger, Teresa Margolles, Joaquim Mir, Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró, Joan Morey, Jaume Plensa, Bernardí Roig, Eulàlia Valldosera and Wolf Vostell.
The main goals of the “Es Baluard Museu” are to expand the collection, to make it known and to strive for highest possible degree of access to the public as well as to activate critical thinking.
To fulfill this, the museum was looking for a software solution that provides the most modern standards for museum and collection management employing web-based technology.
